OXNARD, CA – The Santa Barbara City College Women's Basketball team won at Oxnard Wednesday night, 89-62. The win was head coach Sandrine Krul's 300th at SBCC, adding to her total as winningest coach in program history.

In celebration of this historic milestone, Athletic Director LaDeane Hansten had this to say:

"Coach Krul embodies everything you hope for when you hire a coach. She is passionate about every student athlete and assistant coach reaching their personal potential in life and challenges them every day to be better than the day before. Her team motto of MTXE (Mental Toughness, Extra Effort) is alive and well every day in practice and that tenacity shows when they compete. Her team's academic success led the way for the Vaqueros in the fall, securing a 3C2A Scholar Team Award with a combined GPA of 3.74. At Santa Barbara City College, we are fortunate beyond words to have Sandrine as a coach, teacher, and colleague. It takes consistency, belief in yourself and others, a lot of very hard work, and a lot of late nights to reach 300 wins. Congratulations from the entire department, Sandrine!"

The win was also a critical conference road win, giving the Vaqueros a 3-3 record through the first round of conference play.

After starting the game on an 8-0 run, the Vaqueros found themselves down towards the end of the first quarter, 11-14, after Oxnard's shooting quickly brought them back into the game. The first quarter ended 19-17 SBCC.

The game was tied 22-22 early in the second quarter, before SBCC went on an 11-0 run to pull away. A big reason for that was Vaqueros outrebounded Oxnard 17-3 in the second quarter, and never relinquished the lead from there. The first half ended 41-27 Vaqueros.

Paityn Persson led all scorers with 12 first half points, but the third quarter was the Leila Chisholm-Lily Mires show. Chisholm had 8 points in the frame, shooting 3 for 3, and Mires scored 10 points, shooting 4 for 4 with 5 rebounds.

Up 72-46 at the end of three, the Vaqueros coasted through the fourth, sealing the milestone win for Krul and the program.

Persson, Mires, and Chisholm each had double digit points with 21, 19, and 16, respectively. Persson led the team with 12 rebounds (7 offensive, 5 defensive), with Mires grabbing 9. Chisholm led the team with 5 assists.

Kaylee Bosetti had 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Kylee Garcia, Jasmine Gilbert, and Jaden Bone each had 6 points off the bench.

The Vaqueros shot nearly 50% from the field (34 for 69), outscoring Oxnard 36-12 on points in the paint and 29-8 on points off turnovers. SBCC outrebounded Oxnard by almost double, 41-21.

Kicking off round two of conference play is a road matchup against Cuesta, who the Vaqueros beat 63-57 back on January 10.

Congratulations, Sandrine!
