A longer course led to higher scores on Monday and SBCC finished third for the first time this year in WSC No. 5 women's golf action at Kern River GC in Bakersfield. The Vaqueros were second to Canyons in the first four WSC meets.

Saralisa Ortega and Laine Johnson shot 92s for the Vaqueros, who totaled 378 strokes. Canyons won its fifth straight title at 326, which was 38 shots ahead of Citrus (364). Canyons is 20-0 on the year, six games ahead of Santa Barbara (14-6).

Lexandra So of Citrus and Tiffany Whittaker of Canyons were the medalists at 6-over 78.

"This is the longest course we've played (nearly 6,000 yards) and it was a hot day," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "We didn't play well as a team. We didn't know the course but neither did most of the other players."

The Vaqueros travel to Pasadena to compete in WSC No. 6 on Monday at Brookside GC.
