SBCC had another tough day on a long course Sunday in the first round of the WSC Women's Golf Championships and WSC No. 7.

The Vaqueros shot 387, nine strokes higher than their score six days earlier on the same Brookside No. 1 Golf Course in Pasadena. The course is the longest of the year (6,372 yards) and plays to a par 75.

Canyons won its seventh straight WSC meet with 344 strokes and Citrus was second at 382, five shots better than Santa Barbara. Canyons (28-0) clinched the regular-season title and an automatic berth to the Southern Cal Regional.

The lowest scoring team in the 36-hole WSC Finals between Citrus, SBCC and Bakersfield will also advance to the Regional in Temecula.

Saralisa Ortega led the Vaqueros with a 90 and Nicole Reynolds shot 96. Lexandra So of Citrus was the medalist at 2-over 77.

"We had a rough day and it felt like the pressure of the competition got to us a little," said coach Chuck Melendez. "I know we can play better and we're setting a goal for each player to shoot 5 or 10 shots better tomorrow."

The final round of the WSC Championships and WSC No. 8 will be held on Monday at 8 a.m. at Brookside.
