SBCC's Carolin Chang has been named Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table after capturing her second straight CCCAA State individual women's golf title on Nov. 13-14 at Morro Bay Golf Course.
The sophomore from Tainan, Taiwan shot 72 and 69 for a 3-under 141 that tied her with playing partner Nao Brando (72-69) of Sierra. Chang won a scorecard playoff by shooting 3-under on the back nine.
She was the first repeat State champion in 20 years. Chang tied the all-time low score by an individual champion while winning her 10th tourney this year and 18th of her career. Jenny Lee of Canyons shot 3-under-par in 2007.
The Vaqueros finished second to Sierra, which shot a blazing 291 on the final day. SBCC won 14 straight tournaments before their loss in the State Finals and finished with a 99-1 record.
Chang will continue her college career at Cal State East Bay.
