Farouze, Vaqueros in fourth place at North-South Invitational

Stephanie Farouze and the SBCC women's golf team are in fourth place after Round 1 of the North-South Invitational women's golf tournament at Morro Bay Golf Course.

The 36-hole event attracts most of the top teams in the state and Morro Bay GC will also host the State Championships on Nov. 11-12.

Farouze, a sophomore from Japan, fired a 5-over 77. Gurman Kaur of Sierra was the medalist at 73 and Mackenzie Kelly of Mt. SAC shot 75.

Canyons grabbed the team lead at 320 with four players between 79 and 81. College of the Desert is second at 325, followed by last year's state runner-up Sierra (326) and last year's third-place state finisher SBCC (337). Reedley is fifth at 343.

Corina Garcia added an 85, Lauren Calvin shot 86 and Alexa Bleth posted an 89 for the Vaqueros, who are seeking their fourth straight North-South title.

The final round gets under way on Monday at 8:30 a.m.
