Bleth shoots 79; Vaqueros in 7th in tight race at State Finals

Alexa Bleth fired a season-best 79 on Sunday and SBCC is in seventh place in the CCCAA State Women's Golf Championships at Morro Bay Golf Course.

Bleth, a freshman from Novato, Calif., is tied for 12th in a field of 59 golfers. Eunsoo Jeon of Fullerton took medalist honors at 3-under 69. Ariana Custodio of Sacramento City is second at 71 and Haruka Koda of Canyons is third at even-par 72.

Canyons, the WSC and So Cal Regional champion, shot 309 for an average of 77.3. The Cougars have a 16-shot lead over Desert (325) and a 21-shot advantage over Sierra (330) in the eight-team tourney. Six teams are bunched within 14 strokes of each other in second through seventh place.

Defending state champion Modesto is fifth (332) and the Vaqueros are seventh with 339 strokes. Bleth led the way with her 79. Lauren Calvin shot 85, Stephanie Farouze 87 and No. 6 player Juliet Parsons was the fourth scorer at 88.

The final round will be played on Monday, starting at 8:30 a.m.
