San Dimas, Ca.  The opening WSC match for the 2023 Women's Golf season brought sweltering heat and a tough test for Vaquero Women's Golf team. Playing teir first match of the year at San Dimas Canyon Golf Club, the Vaqueros brought home a 4th place finish (out of 7 teams), with a team score of 365.  College of the Canyons led the event with a score of 334 including medalist honors by Motoko Shimoji (74), followed by Bakersfiled College (348), and Moorpark College (356).

SBCC was led by sophomore Megan Duncan and freshmen Kimbery Luby with a pair of 89's.  Freshmen Sophie McCoy came in with a 93, sophomore Emily Ruiz posted a 94, and freshmen Ella Arce and Amaya Uriquidez shot 101 and 110, respectively.  The top four individual scores comprise the team total.

"I thought overall we played ok," commented head coach Devin Engebretsen. "It was very hot and the wind affected some of their distances on approaches as well. Overall, not bad for our first match, but I believe, as do our ladies, that we will improve as the year progresses and our scores will get better."

SBCC hosts WSC #2 at Santa Barbara Golf Club on September 11th. First tee is 11 am.
