Palmdale, Ca. Out in the desert, where the cacti and Joshua Trees grow large and abundant, the SBCC Women's Golf Team found the grassy fairways, and for the second straight week, took home 2nd place, this time in the WSC #5 event at Antelope Valley Country Club. Coming in as a par 73 and playing at over 6100 yards, AVCC is the longest course the WSC plays on the year, making it a challenge as most golfers have hybrids and woods coming into greens, different than the short irons and wedges they have become accustomed to. Despite that, the Vaqueros were able to post a team score of 360 bringing home 2nd place, 6 shots clear of 3rd place Moorpark.

Freshman Sophie McCoy led the charge for the 4th straight week, posting a team-low score of 84. "Sophie had a great front 9, only two over par. Unfortunately, the back nine gave her some trouble, but she held it together on number 18 and made par there.  She still did a great job, and she knows every shot counts," said head coach Devin Engebretsen. Megan Duncan had a bit of the opposite round with an inward 5-over, but a front nine score of 46.  "Megan struggled a little bit early, but something clicked at the turn for her and she made 5 bogies and 4 pars on the back," added Engebretsen. "Megan has been our most consistent player all year with every round in the 80's (89, 87, 86, 87, 88), and I think she's about to turn a corner with her scoring."   Kimberly Luby posted a 93 and Emily Ruiz added a 95 to round out the team scoring at 360 for the Vaqueros. Freshmen Amaya Urquidez and Ella Arce posted rounds of 100 and 118, resepctively.

The Vaqs sit firmly in 3rd place in the WSC standings at 21-9, 4 points ahead of Bakersfield, but only 2 behind 2nd place Moorpark with 3 scoring events left. SBCC next travels to Paso Robles for the North/South State Preview played at Hunter Ranch Golf Club on October 8/9. The next WSC match is at Santa Maria CC hosted by Allan Hancock College on October 23.
