Vaqueros tie first-place Moorpark 1-1

Marissa Stone intercepted a pass and scored from 20 yards in the eighth minute but Moorpark answered in the 39th minute on Friday night and came away with a 1-1 women's soccer tie at La Playa Stadium.

The Vaqueros are 7-5-5 and 2-2-4. The first-place Raiders are 9-2-7 and 6-0-3. Moorpark is No. 11 in the Southern Cal RPI rankings and the Vaqueros are No. 12. The top 18 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Moorpark (21 points) leads L.A. Pierce (5-0-3, 18 points) by three points in the battle for the WSC North title. Ventura (4-4) is third with 12 points and the defending WSC champion Vaqueros are fourth with 10.

Santa Barbara outshot the visitors 13-9 and had a wide-open goal in the final minute but Kaitlyn Saperstein hit the right post. Goalie Kasey Jensen made a good save in the second half and had four saves for SBCC.

The Vaqueros will host Cuesta on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in their final regular-season home match.
