Josefine Von Der Burg scored the first goal in the 37th minute on a chilly Tuesday night and SBCC went on to blank Cuesta 3-0 in its women's soccer home finale at La Playa Stadium.

Maria Solis, who had two assists, took a shot that caromed off the goalie and Von Der Burg scored past a diving Micaela Lewis for a 1-0 halftime lead.

Marissa Stone got free and hit the left post in the 53rd minute for the Vaqueros (8-5-5, 3-2-4 WSC North).

In the 55th minute, Steph Romero took a pass from Lena Gustafsson and made a back-heel flip to Sarah Jimenez, who pumped in a right-foot shot from 12 yards for a 2-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Solis made a nice touch pass on a through ball and Stone outran a defender, then beat the keeper in the bottom right.

It was the second goal in as many games for Stone.

The Vaqueros outshot Cuesta 15-1 in the first 45 minutes.

"The girls started off well, knocked the ball around well and created a lot of opportunities in the first half," said coach John Sisterson. "We tried to encourage them to keep going forward, if you don't create chances, you're not going to score.

"We're not assured of a playoff spot but it's looking good. We've got a big game coming up at Ventura."

Santa Barbara dominated from start to finish, outshooting the visitors 24-3 and 8-2 in shots on goal. It was the final home appearance for eight sophomores, including Stone, Gustafsson and Jimenez.

Goalkeeper Alex Camarillo recorded her eighth shutout and lowered her goals-against average to 0.84.

The Vaqueros have one WSC game left, on Friday at Ventura, starting at 5 p.m.
