Katherine Sheehy, a forward on the SBCC women's soccer team, has been named Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table.
The sophomore from La Canada High scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over five-time defending state champion Cerritos in the Southern Cal Regional Finals on Saturday night. She had an assist and drew a penalty kick that led to the second goal in a 3-0 win over Orange Coast on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
Sheehy is second on the team in scoring with 14 goals and six assists for 34 points. Isabella Viana leads the Vaqueros with 18 goals and four assists.
SBCC is ranked No. 1 in California and No. 2 in the nation with a 20-0-1 record. The Vaqueros have won 20 straight games with 13 straight shutouts. They've scored 74 goals and have the top-ranked defense in the state, allowing just three goals in 21 games.
The Vaqueros, the No. 1 seed in Southern California, earned their second straight trip to the State Final 4. They'll play Folsom Lake, the No. 2 seed from the North with a 21-1-2 record, in Friday's semifinals at American River College in Sacramento. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Folsom Lake defeated Santa Rosa 2-0 in the Northern Cal Regional Finals. Sophomore forward Andrea Martinez is No. 3 in the state with 25 goals and 13 assists.
