Sheehy is WSC Player of the Year; 12 Vaqueros make all-conference

Katherine Sheehy is the 2017 WSC North women's soccer Player of the Year and 12 SBCC players made the all-conference team.

Santa Barbara (21-1-1) had its best season ever, winning the WSC North (8-0) and finishing second in the state after a 2-1 loss to Fresno City. The Vaqueros set school records with a 21-game win streak and allowed just six goals for the season.

Sheehy, a sophomore forward from Altadena, Calif., tied for first in conference with nine goals and one assist in eight games. She scored 15 goals on the season with 36 points and five game-winning goals. She was named first-team All-West Region and second-team All-American. She also received All-State and All-South Region honors from the California Community College Soccer Coaches Association.

Vaquero coach John Sisterson was the WSC North Coach of the Year for the third time and the Southern Cal Coach of the Year.

Five Vaqueros earned first-team All-WSC honors -- freshman forward Isabella Viana (9 goals in WSC, team-high 19 for season), sophomore midfielder Chloe Montano (6 goals, 18 pts. in WSC), midfielder Amber Mulligan and freshman sisters, Anna and Holly Telliard. Anna Telliard spearheaded the Vaquero defense and was honored on the All-South Region team. Holly Telliard was the goalie, allowing only six goals in 23 games and no goals in eight WSC contests.

Mulligan, a sophomore from Ventura, was first-team All-West Region and second-team All-American.

The Vaqueros outscored their opponents 77-6 and made their second straight trip to the State Final Four.

Second-team honors went to freshman forward Lourdes Gilbert (6 goals, 6 assists in WSC action), sophomore defender Matalyn Perry, sophomore defender Gardenia Maya (Santa Barbara High) and sophomore midfielder Alexa Benitez (Carpinteria High).

Defender Nicole Van Sickle and midfielder Matilda Cassel Ledin were honorable mention.
