Elizabeth Estrada has been chosen Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table.

The award is given to the top male and female athlete from the five local high schools as well as UCSB, SBCC and Westmont College.

Estrada, a sophomore goalie from Carpinteria High, made seven saves in the Vaqueros' 1-1 tie with Ventura in a Southern Cal Regional opener. The teams played 30 minutes of scoreless overtime, so it went to a penalty-kick shootout.

Estrada made the game-winning PK in the fourth round, then stopped a Ventura shot in the fifth round to secure the 4-3 PK victory.

The Vaqueros have scored 17 goals in the last six games while allowing just three. Estrada is 10-3-3 with a 0.77 goals-against average.

The seventh-seeded and WSC North champion Vaqueros (12-6-4) will play No. 15 Saddleback (13-5-4) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Gauchos, the No. 3 team from the Orange Empire Conference, stunned No. 2 Rio Hondo 2-1 last Saturday.

The SBCC-Saddleback game will be played at Ventura College at 7 p.m. The site was changed because of the Cave Fire currently burning in the Santa Barbara hills.
