SANTA BARBARA, CA - In their first home conference game, the SBCC Women's Soccer team defeated Oxnard 3-1.

"Great win today at home," head coach Alexander Zermeno said, "games are about chances and we had plenty of them. We saw a lot of things that we liked and some things that we need to work on."

Oxnard scored on a corner kick 18 minutes into the match, but their lead was short lived.

In the 21st minute, Sofia Capelleti capped off an amazing dribble with a shot in the back of the net. Then, right before halftime, Gizela Amariz Zermeno lofted a beautiful 30-yard ball that connected with Eden Lazarus who finished to make it 2-1.

The dagger came in the 72nd minute, when the Vaqueros showed their precision in a transitional moment. Zermeno headed the ball on to Lazarus, reminiscent of their earlier linkup, who then found space before finding Sofia Capelleti. Capelleti took a touch around the goalkeeper and slotted home, securing the 3-1 win for SBCC.

"We are happy to have Athena Raelynn Bow-Graham and Gizela Zermeno back in the lineup. They help make a difference," head coach Zermeno boasted. "I also want to shout out Stella McKay for being rock solid in our back row, Eden Lazarus for her first collegiate goal and Sofia Cap for getting back on the score sheet.

"We will enjoy this win and prep for LA Pierce on Tuesday."

SBCC is now 5-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. As Zermeno mentioned, the Vaqueros next play at LA Pierce in a conference match Tuesday at 1:30 PM.
