Freshman Rachelle Visser posted a first, second and third in the 14th annual Pasadena Invitational on Friday and Saturday, leading SBCC to a sixth-place finish in the prestigious women's swim meet hosted by Pasadena City College.

Orange Coast won the 16-team competition with 804.5 points, followed by Northern Cal schools Diablo Valley (564.5) and American River (508). The Vaqueros were the highest-scoring WSC team, taking sixth with 279 points.

Visser was first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.78), second in the 100 butterfly (59.40) and third in the 200 IM (2:19.08) for the Vaqueros, who are competing in their first women's swim season. She also placed ninth in the 500 free and swam on the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay, helping the Vaqueros take fifth in each race.

Emily Foster was third in the 100 breaststroke in a personal-best 1:11.15.  Jenner Johnson of American River won in a meet-record time of 1:06.39.

Janina Schulz was eighth in the 100 breast in 1:13.15 and Malin Wallmon was ninth in 1:14.16, both season bests. Sienna van Alphen was 10th in the 100 butterfly in a season-best 1:04.00.

Coach Chuckie Roth brought 17 swimmers to their first invitational of the year and he reported that "everyone swam with everything they had. We made quite an impression on the other Southern California colleges."

Other personal bests were recorded by Autumn Lovett (13th, 1:07.05) and Ally Marrs (1:14.77) in the 100 back; Dakota Chamberlin in the 50 back (33.51) and Emily Wheeler (100 fly, 1:10.48).

"The icing on the cake was the 4 x 100 free relays," Roth noted. "Our A and B teams both went under 4:00, finishing off the meet with more best times and fast swimming."

The Vaqueros will compete in the Western State Conference Championships on April 17-19 at L.A. Valley College.
