Alex Humann had a big day on Friday, taking second in the 100 freestyle, seventh in the 200 butterfly and swimming a leg on the third-place 800 free relay team at the 38th annual Cuesta Invitational women's swim meet.

Orange Coast, last year's state runner-up, won the prestigious two-day meet with 498.5 points. Sierra was second with 488 and defending state champ Santa Rosa was third with 285 points. The Vaqueros only competed on Friday's first day and still finished 11th (133 points) out of 23 teams.

Humann, a freshman from San Francisco, swam 56.09 in the 100 free, losing by just .35 seconds to Shelby Parker of Sierra. There were 121 swimmers in the 100 free race. The 800 free relay team was clocked in 8:24.79, the third-fastest in school history.

"Alex swam very well," said coach Chuckie Roth. "She swam personal best times in the 100 free, the 200 fly and her 200 free in the relay. I am very proud of her improvement and dedication."

Kristina Hill took fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle in 19:02.06, the No. 2 mark on the Vaqueros' all-time list.

The 200 free relay team placed eighth and Reese Ellestad was 11th in the 200 backstroke. Haley Crowley placed 12th in the 200 breast and 14th in the 100 free. Halie Johnson took 14th in the 100 free in 58.09.

"Haley Johnson swam two season-best times in the 100 free and the 200 free as part of the 800 free relay," noted Roth. "Kristina Hill and Tessa Brinkman both swam season bests in the 1650 free and Ashley Collins swam a personal best in the 200 IM."

SBCC makes its only home appearance of the year on Saturday when it hosts WSC No. 2 at San Marcos High, starting at 10 a.m.
