SBCC took third place in the opening and closing relays on Friday night in the CCCAA Swimming & Diving State Championships at East Los Angeles College. Third place is the highest finish ever by an SBCC relay in the State Finals.

The Vaqueros broke school records in both the 200 medley relay (1:51.54) and the 800 free relay (7:58.79), shattering the latter mark by nearly 10 seconds. The 200 medley team featured Reese Ellestad (backstroke), Addison Seale (breaststroke), Alex Humann (butterfly) and Kendra Carr (freestyle).

The 800 free relay was the "one of the most amazing things I've seen," according to Vaquero coach Chuckie Roth. Kristina Hill led off, followed by Halie Johnson, Humann and Seale and they swam nearly 10 seconds faster than their seed time. SBCC has set four school records at the State Finals, including three relays.

"We really needed to gain some points and Alex had a slight lead for third place after the third leg," stated Roth. "Addison went out patiently, then turned on the heat to pass several swimmers in the last 100 yards. It was a beautiful finish."

Orange Coast has won 10 of 12 swim events and expanded its lead with 382 points. Sierra is second with 250, followed by Santa Rosa (212), SBCC (200) and Las Positas (194).

Seale took fifth in the 100 breast in 1:08.75, the No. 2 time in SBCC history. Haley Crowley was 11th in that race and Humann was 11th in the 100 fly.

The three-day meet concludes on Saturday with prelims at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 4 p.m.
