Gina Jacobson placed first in the 1-meter diving on Friday and second in the 3-meter on Saturday at the 39th annual Cuesta Invitational. Jacobson has six firsts and two seconds in eight events for SBCC, which is competing in diving for the first time.
The freshman from Madison, Wis., topped a 16-woman field with 244.70 points in the 1-meter. Alejandra Gomez of Cypress was second at 221.50 and Randi Berg of Clovis was third at 211.90.
SBCC's Ashley Dettmann was fifth with 204.10 points.
"Gina had a very strong finish on one-meter with an Inward 1½ that was grace in motion," said coach Trish Salvatore. "It was incredible!"
"Ashley's final dive was an inward pike and it was textbook, very fluid with a great entry."
On Saturday, Gomez placed first in the 3-meter springboard at 247.90. Jacobson was second at 229.70 and Nicole Cox of Sierra was third at 228.05. Dettmann took seventh with 148.70 points.
"Gina really brought it home with her last two dives both receiving 7's and 6's," stated Salvatore. "It was tremendous to see her feel comfortable with her inwards and reverses. They are starting to be really good dives for her.
"Ashley brought us a 7th place, which was great in a more competitive field. Her last dive, an inward pike, was pure grace."
The Vaqueros will compete in the final WSC regular-season diving meet, WSC No. 3, on Friday at L.A. Valley at 11:30 a.m.
