Gina Jacobson won the first WSC diving titles in SBCC history on Saturday and teammate Ashley Dettmann was second in both the 1- and 3-meter springboard at El Camino College.
Jacobson totaled 250.05 points to capture the 3-meter crown at the Warriors' indoor pool. Dettmann was second with 185.75 and Nikki Gurgiolo of Hancock took third at 135.15.
On Friday, Jacobson and Dettmann went 1-2 in the WSC 1-meter final. Jacobson, a freshman from Madison, Wis., scored 225.10 points and Dettmann, a freshman from Coronado, Calif., had 210.40. Jacobson was a perfect 8-0 in four WSC meets this year.
Jacobson set new WSC records in both the 1- and 3-meter events.
The Southern Cal Championships were also held this weekend at El Camino. Jacobson was second in both the 1- and 3-meter competitions while Dettmann finished third and fourth.
Alejandra Gomez of Cypress, the only diver to beat Jacobson this year, claimed the So Cal 1- and 3-meter titles with 239.95 and 277.70 points, respectively. Jacobson was second in the 1-meter with 225.10 points (just 14.85 behind Gomez) and 250.05, her second-best score in the 3-meter.
The top eight finishers qualified for the State Championships on May 4-6 at the East L.A. Swim Stadium in Monterey Park.
SBCC added diving to its women's swim program this year and Jacobson has dominated with 12 wins and four runner-up finishes.
The Vaquero swimmers will go for their third straight WSC championship on April 20-22 (Thursday through Saturday) at Hancock College. They'll start with 74 points, thanks to the diving efforts of Jacobson and Dettmann.
