SBCC fell to Ventura 6-3 on Thursday in a WSC women's tennis match at Camino Real Park in Ventura.

"We continue to improve as a team and this was our best performance of the year," said Vaquero coach Lance Kronberg. "Teresa Downey had another solid win at No. 1 singles against a tough defensive opponent, which was made more difficult with slow courts and 80-degree weather."

Ventura improved to 3-2 and 1-0 while the Vaqueros fell to 0-4 and 0-2.

Downey beat Yannick Garcia 6-3, 6-4. Monica Kunz posted an epic 2½-hour win at No. 3 singles, prevailing in a pair of tiebreakers 7-6 (9), 7-6 (4). Gabriela McDaniel and Kenzie Usher rallied from a 5-2 deficit to win the No. 2 doubles for SBCC, 9-7.

The Vaqueros return to action on Tuesday at Antelope Valley.
