Teresa Downey took the No. 1 singles for SBCC on Tuesday but Glendale won every other match on the way to an 8-1 women's tennis victory at Pershing Park.
Downey swept Viktorya Shimakova 6-1, 6-2 to improve to 5-1 in singles. She and Monica Kunz lost a tight 9-7 match at No. 1 doubles.
Glendale (8-1, 3-1) and SBCC share the Vaqueros nickname. Santa Barbara fell to 2-5 and 2-3 in WSC action.
"We ran into a very solid team today," said coach Lance Kronberg. "Glendale has strong players from top to bottom but we fought hard."
SBCC starts the second round of conference play on Tuesday with a 1 p.m. match at Santa Monica.
