Tess Kolkman and Edda von Hodenberg combined to win three points on Thursday and SBCC downed Ventura 6-3 for its first women's tennis victory of the year at Pershing Park.

Kolkman, a freshman from Holland, returned from a foot injury and rallied to win at No. 4 singles 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 in her first match for the Vaqueros. Von Hodenberg, a freshman from Germany, cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles as Santa Barbara (1-2, 1-1 WSC) took a 4-2 lead after singles.

Kolkman / Von Hodenberg clinched the match by beating Candice Nito / Chelsea Petersen 8-2 in No. 3 doubles.

"This was the first match that we've had our full roster," noted coach Lance Kronberg. "It was great to get our first win on our home courts."
