SBCC blanked Antelope Valley 9-0 on Tuesday in a WSC women's tennis match on a windy day in Lancaster.

The Vaqueros (8-2, 7-1) won their eighth in a row and remained in a first-place tie with Glendale atop the WSC with two matches to go. SBCC travels to Bakersfield on Thursday, then hosts Glendale in a first-place showdown on Tuesday, March  24 at 2 p.m.

"The most dramatic match today was No. 1 singles where Maddie Seeds beat Celsea McGrew 7-6 (5), 6-2," said coach Lance Kronberg. "Maddie likes to hit the ball hard and pretty flat, which is a risky way to play. Today the winds were gusting, which makes that style of play almost impossible. Maddie fought it for the first set, and struggled. Then for the first time this season, she changed her strategy. She played safer balls, stopped trying hard serves, and let her opponent make the mistakes. It was much easier for her and much better to watch as a coach.

"Maddie can run forever. By adding this dimension to her game, she becomes a much better player. I'm not sure she gets how big this win was today, but I am very excited."

SBCC swept the other five singles sets, winning 60 of 65 games.
