Gabrielle Goss and Madison Ortiz took the No. 3 doubles set 8-4 on Thursday, lifting SBCC to a 5-4 women's tennis victory over Ventura at the Pershing Park courts.
It was the second 5-4 win over Ventura for the Vaqueros this year. SBCC improved to 9-2 overall and stayed in second in the WSC at 6-1, one game behind Glendale (7-0) with three to play.
Tyler Bunderson, Kassandra Ortiz, Goss and Savannah Bickle posted straight-set wins at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 to give the Vaqueros a 4-2 lead heading into doubles.
"All the girls played well across the board," said assistant coach Christina Klein. "Savannah was able to get the win at the No. 6 singles spot giving us a 4-2 lead. Every doubles match was well fought and earned."
The Vaqueros will host San Diego Mesa in a nonconference match on Friday (weather permitting), starting at 2 p.m.
