SBCC's Maddie Seeds won three matches on Saturday to move into the semifinals of the WSC women's tennis singles tournament and the final of the doubles tourney.

Seeds, a sophomore from Orcutt Academy, is seeded third in the singles event, which was held at Camino Real Park in Ventura. She beat No. 10 Meredy Gharabegi of Glendale 7-5, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. She'll take on No. 2 Viktoriya Shumakova, also from WSC champion Glendale, on Friday, April 8 in the semifinals at Ventura College at noon. The final is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Shumakova ended the magical run of No. 18 Kassandra Ortiz of SBCC in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-3. No. 1 Mariko Sagara of Ventura eliminated No. 8 Tyler Bunderson of SBCC 6-0, 6-0.

Two Vaqueros made the State Championships (April 21-24 at The Ojai) by winning back draw matches. No. 17 Julianna Adelman upset No. 9 Karly Britton of Antelope Valley 6-7, 6-2, (10-6 super tiebreaker) and Lesly Zapata De Lira surprised No. 11 Veronika Galsyan of Glendale with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory. SBCC's Gabrielle Goss fell to Masa Petrovic of Santa Monica 6-0, 7-5.

In doubles, No. 3 Seeds and Zapata De Lira beat No. 5 Petrovic/Lauren Voiers 8-4 in the quarters, then rallied to top No. 2 Riley Tucker/Kaylee Defrees of Bakersfield 9-7 in the semifinals. Seeds/Zapata De Lira were down 5-7, love-40 before winning four straight games to take the set.

Seeds/Zapata De Lira will battle No. 4 Shumakova/Gharabegi of Glendale for the WSC doubles championship on Friday in a 4 p.m. match at Ventura.

No. 8 Adelman/K. Ortiz of SBCC lost in the quarterfinals to Shumakova/Gharabegi 8-1. The No. 1 team of Sagara/Jessica Powell ousted the Vaqueros' 10th-seeded duo of Goss and Madison Ortiz 8-1.
