No. 3 Maddie Seeds extended No. 2 Viktoriya Shumakova of Glendale to a super tiebreaker on Thursday before dropping a 7-6 (6), 1-6, (10-5) match in the WSC Tournament women's tennis semifinals at Ventura College.

Seeds, the only sophomore on SBCC's roster, battled through an injury on a windy day in her match that ended just before 2 p.m. She returned to the court two hours later and came up short in the doubles final, losing 6-2, 5-3, retired, with partner Lesly Zapata De Lira. Seeds/Zapata were seeded third and they fell to No. 4 Shumakova/Meredy Gharabegi of Glendale.

Eight Vaqueros will compete in the State Individual Tournament on April 21-24 at The Ojai and selected sites in Ventura County. Seeds is seeded No. 13 in Southern Cal singles and she and Zapata De Lira are No. 14 in doubles.

Seeds, Tyler Bunderson, Kassandra Ortiz, Julianna Adelman and Zapata De Lira will play in singles, along with four doubles teams -- Seeds/Zapata De Lira, Adelman/K. Ortiz, Gabrielle Goss/Madison Ortiz and Bunderson/Savannah Bickle.
