SBCC sophomore Maddie Seeds fell in the Round of 32 at the CCCAA State Women's Tennis Championships on Friday, losing a tight three-setter to the No. 3 North seed, Joelle Huelse of Canada, at Buena High. The scores were 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.

"Maddie played really well," said first-year Vaquero coach Randy Moharram. "The match could have gone either way."

Seeds was the 13th seed from the South in the four-day tourney that's being held at the 116th Ojai Tournament. She went 13-8 in singles this year while playing in the No. 1 spot against the top players in Southern California.

Seeds came back in the afternoon and played a Round of 32 doubles match with Lesly Zapata De Lira. The 14th-seeded Vaquero duo lost to another No. 3 seed, Mari Ochoa/Milah Ryland of Fresno City, 6-4, 6-1.

Gabrielle Goss and Madison Ortiz put their 14-1 record on the line in a Round of 32 match at Ventura College. They were eliminated by No. 8 Ashley Glick/Dominique Willette of Saddleback, 6-3, 6-2.

The Vaqueros enjoyed a solid season, going 11-4 in dual matches and finishing second in the WSC with an 8-2 record. They made the South Dual-Team Regional for the fifth time in seven years, losing to eventual state champ Cerritos 6-1 in the opening round.
