Vaqueros beat Ventura for second time, 7-2

SBCC took a 4-2 lead in singles and then swept the doubles on Thursday to hand visiting Ventura a 7-2 setback at Pershing Park.

Laura Berther, Tyler Bunderson, Julianna Adelman and Paige Jensen earned singles points at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively. The foursome also won their doubles sets.

The Vaqueros (6-4, 3-4) have beaten Ventura by identical 7-2 scores in two meetings this year. SBCC has won four of its last six matches. The Pirates (4-6, 1-6) dropped their fourth in a row.

Berther posted a 6-1, 6-2 singles win and teamed with Adelman to take the No. 2 doubles 8-2. Bunderson, a sophomore from Santa Ynez High, downed Lea Meschke 6-1, 6-4 and combined with Brenna Casey for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.

The Vaqueros will host defending state champion Cerritos (6-3) on Saturday at noon.
