Riverside downs Vaqueros in opener, 6-3

Riverside swept the doubles on Friday to hand SBCC a 6-3 setback in the women's tennis opener at Pershing Park.

Katelyn Peyvandi, a freshman from Fresno, rallied for a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win over Ella Rosado at No. 1 singles. The other Vaquero points were earned by No. 3 Josephine Pulver and No. 4 Pia Valtierra.

"We have work to do as a team but we have potential to do some damage in conference," said first-year SBCC coach Christina Klein.

The Vaqueros will travel to Fullerton for a 2 p.m. match on Friday, Feb. 2.
