Peyvandi/Goss reach WSC semifinals; 3 doubles qualify for State

Katelyn Peyvandi and Gabrielle Goss won two sets to reach the semifinals of the WSC women's tennis doubles tournament on Saturday before falling to No. 2 seed Miah Webb and Sabrina Subero of Glendale 8-3 at Ventura College.

Peyvandi/Goss, the No. 3 seed, qualified for the State Championships at Ojai (April 26-29), along with the Vaqueros' No. 2 doubles team of Josephine Pulver/Pia Valtierra and No. 3 Hanna Pesniak/Maddie Mitchell.

Pulver/Valtierra won 8-0 to reach the quarterfinals, then lost to the top-seeded duo, Srna Lepchevska/Hailey McNall of Glendale 8-5. Pesniak/Mitchell earned a state berth by winning a back-draw match 8-5.

In singles, four Vaqueros fell in the Round of 16. Peyvandi, the No. 4 seed, had the closest match, losing to Subero 1-6, 6-3, 10-4. Peyvandi will take on her teammate Pulver on Friday at Ventura College with the winner earning a spot in the state tourney. The loser will meet Goss for another state berth.

Valtierra is also in the back back draw and can advance to state with a win on Friday.
