Vaqueros top Canyons 8-1 for sixth straight win

SBCC won the No. 2 through 5 singles and only dropped nine games in eight sets on Friday in an 8-1 women's tennis win over Canyons.

The Vaqueros captured their sixth straight match and improved to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the WSC North. Canyons (3-3, 3-1) suffered its first WSC loss.

Jamaica Buyse, Anya Nicolaides, Victoria Dafos and Maddie Mitchell posted two-set sweeps for Santa Barbara, which has won three matches in the last four days. Nicolaides fell behind 4-2 in the first set of the No. 3 match, then won 10 of 11 games to knock off Nicole Villarta 6-4, 6-1.

The Vaqueros will play at Bakersfield on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
