Rucker breaks school record in HJ; Bartlett also qualifies for State

SBCC's Kathryn Rucker set a new school record in the high jump on Saturday and Nicole Bartlett took sixth in the 1500 at the Southern Cal Women's Track & Field Championships.

Rucker, a sophomore from Sacramento, was fifth with a clearance of 1.70 meters (5 feet, 7 inches). Kelli Johnson set the previous school record of 1.69m in 2011.

Bartlett, a sophomore from Seattle, Wash., ran a personal-best 4:49.52 to grab the sixth and final qualifying spot. Bartlett's time was No. 10 in SBCC history. Rucker, who finished seventh in last year's State meet, and Bartlett both qualified for the State Championships on May 16-17 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

Jessica Escalante took seventh in the 100 in her second-fastest time of the year (12.42) and eighth in the javelin (33.72m).

Mia Owens was eighth in the 3000 steeplechase after entering as the No. 12 seed. She ran a 10-second PR of 12:15.66.
