SBCC posted eight wins in its women's track season debut on Friday at the SLO Town Classic in San Luis Obispo. It was a dual meet with the host Cuesta and also featured some unattached and club athletes.

Jessica Escalante was one of three double winners for the Vaqueros. The sophomore took the 100 in 12.83 and the javelin with a heave of 35.91 meters (117 feet, 9 3/4 inches), missing her personal record and No. 5 spot on the all-time school list by just over two inches. Freshman Dominique Hinds captured the 200 (25.95) and 400 (60.09) while Anyel Thomas won the triple jump (9.52m) and long jump (4.97). Emilie Arnoldi was second in the 100, the triple jump and long jump.

Alyssa Garrett claimed the 400 hurdles in 1:11.87 and Juliette Alliaume won the high jump at 1.50 meters.

"This was a good opener for us and I was pleased with our marks and efforts," said coach Scott Fickerson. "This is a great starting point. We're a young team and we competed well, considering that this was the first college meet for many of them."

The Vaqueros will compete in the Soka Indoor Qualifier on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Soka University in Aliso Viejo. The meet will be held outdoors but the marks could be used to qualify for indoor marks.
