Jessica Escalante took second in the javelin and Olivia Loy won her heat in the 400 meters on Saturday at the Southern Cal Track & Field Prelims at Cerritos College.
The left-handed Escalante unleashed a throw of 35.33 meters (115 feet, 11 inches). Loy won her heat and posted the third-best time in the 400 at 57.02. She also advanced in the 200 at 24.99.
Both SBCC relay teams qualified for the Southern Cal Championships, which will take place on Saturday at Cerritos in Norwalk.
The 4 x 100 relay was seventh in 48.69 with a team of Anyel Thomas, Loy, Marla Bonser and Escalante. The 4 x 400 squad ran 4:09.81. Escalante ran first, followed by Michele Day, Bonser and Loy.
