Freshman Maya Nelson placed 3rd in the shot put against 14 competitors from four-year schools.

Hannah Arnold took second in the 60-meter sprint on Saturday at the Soka University Invitational at Aliso Viejo.
The SBCC freshman ran 7.88 and was nipped by the winner, Sarah Herron of Concordia, in 7.83. There were 25 competitors in the race.
Maya Nelson, a freshman from Old Bridge, N.J., was third in the shot put at 10.02 meters (32 feet, 10½ inches) in a meet that featured athletes from four-year schools like Westmont, Biola, Concordia, Vanguard and Soka University as well as Community College schools West L.A. and Golden West and club athletes. Sarah Stafford of Concordia won the shot put at 12.78 meters (41-11 1/4).
The Vaqueros will compete in the WSC relays on Friday at Ventura College.
