Nelson wins hammer with No. 3 all-time mark

Maya Nelson captured the hammer and shattered her personal record on Friday in the WSC Coastal women's track meet at Cuesta in San Luis Obispo.

The freshman from Old Bridge, N.J., unleashed a 39.39-meter throw (129 feet, 2¾ inches), which was a PR by nearly seven meters. Her mark ranks No. 3 on the Vaqueros' all-time list. She also took third in the discus, fourth in the shot put and fifth in the javelin. She tossed the discus 31.60 meters for another personal best.

Nicole Stevens was fourth in the 400 (1:02.41) and Yuliana Garibay took fifth in the 3000 (11:51.88).

Ryann Rhodeman recorded season bests in the 100 (5th, 13.38) and 200 (9 th, 26.86). Molly Glassman notched season bests in the 200 (27.72) and long jump (4.58m).

The Vaqueros will compete in the Cal State L.A. Twilight meet on Thursday, April 14.
