Nelson is fifth in WSC javelin, qualifies for Southern Cal Prelims

SBCC's Maya Nelson took fifth in the WSC javelin final on Friday at College of the Canyons and earned a trip to the Southern Cal Prelims.

The freshman from Old Bridge, N.J., threw 25.11 meters (82 feet, 4½ inches) on her fourth attempt.

All field events at the WSC Prelims were finals, as was the 10000 meters. The top six qualify for the Southern Cal Prelims on May 7 at Antelope Valley. Half of the field event finals were held on Friday and the other half will take place on Friday, April 29 in the WSC Championships at Bakersfield.

Three Vaqueros qualified for the WSC Finals, led by Hannah Arnold, who took sixth in the 100 in 12.69. Nicole Stevens was ninth in the 400 in a PR of 1:01.45 and Yuliana Garibay took 12th in the 1500 with a PR of 5:25.18.
