SBCC freshman Maya Nelson took ninth in the women's hammer on Saturday and qualified for the Southern Cal Track & Field Finals on a windy day at Antelope Valley College.
Nelson, who won a WSC title in the hammer last week, unleashed a throw of 42.42 meters on her final attempt. The top 12 moved on to the Finals.
Yuliana Garibay ran a season-best 12:51.49 (8th all-time at SBCC) in the 3000 steeplechase, Hannah Arnold was 13th in the 100 (13.05) and Nelson placed 20th in the javelin (20.83m).
The Southern Cal Finals will be held on Saturday at Antelope Valley.
