Andrea Mueller was selected as Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table for the week ending March 26. The SBCC track athlete received her award during Monday's press luncheon at Harry's Plaza Café.
Mueller, a freshman from Switzerland, broke the school record in the heptathlon on Thursday and Friday, March 24-25, by scoring 4382 points in the Jim Klein Combined Events at Westmont College. She beat Penny Smith's 26-year-old school record by 43 points.
She placed fourth in the Jim Klein event and was the top Community College finisher. The first three places went to athletes from four-year schools, led by Lyndsey Lopes of USC at 5368 points.
Mueller's season-best long jump of 5.25 meters (17-2¾) ranks 7th on the Vaqueros' all-time list.
Her mark of 4382 points is No. 5 in the state this year and qualified her for the Southern Cal Multi-Events Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday at Cerritos College.
