Andrea Mueller is sixth out of 17 athletes after Tuesday's first day of the Southern Cal Heptathlon at Cerritos College.
Mueller, who broke a 16-year-old SBCC record on with 4382 points on March 24-25, has 2694 points. Juanita Webster of Cerritos is the leader with 3274 and Jasmine Hall of Canyons is second at 2987.
Mueller was fourth in the high jump at 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches). There are 17 women in the two-day competition. Four events are held on Day 1 and three (long jump, javelin and 800) are staged on Day 2.
"Less than two weeks after her last heptathlon, she wasn't feeling fresh and explosive today but she's still mentally ready," said Vaquero assistant coach Scott Santella. "We're looking to pick up points in all three events on Day 2, especially the javelin."
