Bruhin races to first and third in WSC Prelims

Shoelle Bruhin captured the 400 meters in 58.97 seconds on Friday and finished third in the 200 in 26.57, leading the SBCC women's track team in the WSC Prelims at La Playa Stadium.

The freshman from Switzerland dominated her heat in the 400 and finished 2.20 seconds ahead of Aja Hill of West L.A. in a field of 11 runners. She won her heat in the 200 by a scant .01 of a second, edging Briann Brazil of Antelope Valley by an eyelash.

The top nine finishers in the running events advanced to the WSC Finals next Friday at Moorpark College. There were five finals on Friday in the shot put, pole vault, long jump, discus and 10,000 meters.

Christy Chavira posted a couple of sevenths for the Vaqueros in the 800 (2:30.30) and 1500 (4:56.66). Her 4:56 was a personal best this season. Caroline Smith was seventh in the 200 (27.44) and ninth in the 100, sprinting to a 12.82 clocking that earned her the ninth qualifying berth.

Stefani Valdez placed eighth in the discus final (31.11m, 102-1) and Isabella Molony was 10th in the 100 (13.08).
