Bruhin takes third, Chavira is fifth at Southern Cal Finals

Shoelle Bruhin grabbed third in the 400 meters and Christy Chavira was fifth in the 1500 on Saturday in the Southern Cal Finals at Riverside College.

Bruhin, a freshman from Galganen, Switzerland, posted a season-best 58.04 and finished just 0.55 seconds behind the winner, Annayah Pelt of Riverside (57.49).

Chavira, a sophomore from Righetti High in Santa Maria, was fifth in the 1500 in 5:00.58.

Isabella Molony placed sixth in the high jump with a season-best 1.50m (4-11) and 10th in the triple jump (10.15m, 33-3¾).

Cerritos took the women's title with 166 points. Riverside was second at 130 and West L.A. placed third at 88.

Bruhin and Chavira will compete in the CCCAA State Championships on Friday and Saturday at College of San Mateo.
