Vaquero Track & Field Competes at Orange Coast Classic

COSTA MESA – The SBCC track and field teams competed at the Orange Coast Classic on Friday, taking a handful of solid finishes and a highlight first-place win by Esai Vega.

Men's Highlights
• Vega highlighted the Vaqueros' day by setting a new PR in the discus with a 43.37m, finishing first out of 18 competitors.
• Matthew Staples had a pair of top-three finishes, taking second in the 200m (22.20) and third in the 100m (11.00)
• Ryan Gregory also claimed a top-three spot in multiple events, finishing second in the long jump (6.54m) and third in both the 110 hurdles (15.82) and pole vault (4.10m)
• BJ Phillips went third in the high jump (1.85m) and sixth in the 100m (11.16)
• Ryan Gregory set a PR in a solid third-place outing in the pole vault (4.10m)
• Bennet Christensen ran an impressive 800m (2:04.52), just one second off his lifetime PR

Women's Highlights
• Despite competing on a beat up ankle, Lydia Howard highlighted things for the Vaqueros on the women's side taking second in the high jump (1.50m) and sixth in the long jum (4.89m)
• Allexis Dellevigne claimed fourth in the 100m (12.84)
• The 4x400 relay team of Alexis Dellevigne, Zia Frausto, Zet Contreras and Olivia Gaspar finished in fifth (4:24.95)
