Katelynn Womack had 16 kills and Eryn Young dug 21 balls on Friday night to help SBCC outlast L.A. Pierce 3-2 in its WSC North women's volleyball opener in Woodland Hills. The scores were 25-21, 25-22, 28-30, 24-26, 15-9.
It was the 11th straight conference win for the two-time defending WSC North champions and the second win over No. 16 Pierce (8-6, 0-1) in seven days.
Womack also had five blocks, six digs and three aces as the No. 8-ranked Vaqueros (10-4, 1-0) extended their win streak to six in a row. Young collected three of her team's 10 service aces. Kaitlyn Clemann added 11 kills and four blocks while Taylor Badois had six kills and a career-high seven block assists.
Madelon Leiphardt handed out 45 assists and notched five kills with a .455 hitting percentage. She and Tristen Thompson had eight digs apiece.
SBCC travels to Hancock on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match.
