SBCC followed the same script to win a pair of five-set women's volleyball matches on Saturday at the Bakersfield Quad.

The Vaqueros alternated wins and losses after taking the first set in each match. They beat the host Bakersfield 25-18, 20-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-12, then outlasted Antelope Valley 25-9, 19-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-8.

"It was a real battle against Bakersfield, they're a great team," said assistant coach Lisa Gera. "Sydney Kantor and Shiloe Parsons had great serving runs. It was fantastic for us to get the experience of five-set matches, especially for the freshmen."

Katelynn Womack and Shannon Friend led the Vaqueros (6-1) with 13 and 12 kills vs. Bakersfield. Tristen Thompson had 18 digs while Kantor collected 12 digs and a season-high six aces.

Setter Shiloe Parsons had 71 assists in the two victories and racked up 10 kills with just one error.

In the afternoon match, SBCC came out smoking and cruised to a 25-9 win.

"We only had four unforced errors in that first set, that was our best set of the year," noted Gera. "AVC started playing better, but ultimately we steadied out and outlasted them. Shiloe was very consistent and did a great job of finding the right hitters at the right time."

Womack had a career-best 20 kills against the Marauders and Friend added 10 with a .500 hitting percentage. Paige Sabin added seven kills and two blocks.

Thompson had 15 digs and three aces while McKinney contributed 14 digs and five aces.

SBCC will play Antelope Valley again on Friday when the Vaqueros travel to Lancaster for a 6 p.m. nonconference battle.
