    Kaylene Ureno, a 5-9 outside hitter on the SBCC women’s volleyball team, was chosen as Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table. The freshman from Turlock, Calif., received her award during Monday’s weekly press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Café.

    Carolyn Andrulis racked up 23 kills and 27 digs in a pair of 3-0 sweeps by the SBCC women’s volleyball team on Saturday in the Fullerton Quad Tournament. The Vaqueros downed a pair of Orange Empire teams, beating Golden West 25-22, 25-21, 25-18 and Fullerton 25-20, 25-12, 25-14 to extend their “sweep streak” to six in a row.

    SBCC opened its women’s volleyball season with a pair of wins on Friday on the first day of L.A. Pierce Kickoff Classic in Woodland Hills. The Vaqueros swept Palomar 25-17, 25-23, 25-7, then downed Pasadena 3-1 (25-17, 25-14, 19-25, 25-21) in a quarterfinal match of the eight-team tournament.
