Kaylene Ureno, a 5-9 outside hitter on the SBCC women's volleyball team, was chosen as Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table. The freshman from Turlock, Calif., received her award during Monday's weekly press luncheon at Harry's Plaza Café.
The SBART selects the top male and female Athletes of the Week from all the high schools and colleges in the Santa Barbara area.
Ureno posted her first college double-double on Saturday with 14 kills, 13 digs and six blocks as the Vaqueros, ranked fifth in the state, upset No. 2 Grossmont 3-1. Ureno hit .387 and SBCC set season highs for hitting percentage (.333), blocks (13.5) and digs (73).
The Vaqueros (9-1), who moved up to No. 3 in this week's poll, will host Santa Monica on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
