Vaqueros take second in Brahma Invitational

SBCC swept Gavilan for its 10th straight win on Saturday afternoon, then came back and dropped a 3-0 decision to host L.A. Pierce in the championship match of the seventh annual Brahma Invitational women's volleyball tournament in Woodland Hills.

No. 2-ranked Pierce (15-2) won its eighth straight and posted its second win over the No. 3 Vaqueros (12-2) this year. Santa Barbara swept Gavilan 25-19, 28-26, 25-18, then fell to the Brahmas 25-22, 25-16, 25-23.

Carolyn Andrulis had 10 kills in the Gavilan match and Shannon Friend added nine. Kiana Pisula had a double-double with 24 assists and 15 digs. Claire Bagdasar also had 15 digs and two aces. Middle hitter Isabella Thompson notched five kills and six solo blocks.

Friend had eight kills in the championship match and Bagdasar made 10 digs. Pierce outhit the Vaqueros .306 to .213, led by Cassidy Rosso with 18 kills and a .457 percentage.

The Vaqueros return to Woodland Hills on Friday for their third match against L.A. Pierce with the first serve at 6 p.m.
