No. 2 Pierce tops No. 3 Vaqueros 3-1

L.A. Pierce used a 48-33 advantage in kills to defeat SBCC 3-1 on Friday night in a top-3 matchup of women's volleyball teams in the state. The scores were 25-17, 18-25, 25-23, 25-18.

Pierce, ranked No. 2 in California, beat the Vaqueros for the third time this year and improved to 16-2 with its ninth straight win. No. 3 Santa Barbara (12-3) dropped its second match to the Brahmas in the last seven days at their Woodland Hills gym.

The Vaqueros hit .308 to win the second set, then fell to .080 while losing a tight third set. Pierce won the hitting battle for the match, .185 to .172.

Isabella Thompson led the Vaqueros with eight kills, a .438 hitting percentage, eight digs and three solo blocks. Carolyn Andrulis had eight kills and Shannon Friend added seven. Claire Bagdasar had 13 digs and Kiana Pisula 10.

Cassidy Rosso led Pierce with 12 kills while Shanon Volpis and Hayley Alvarez had 11 apiece.

The Vaqueros travel to L.A. Mission on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match.
