No. 3 Vaqueros to host Irvine Valley in So Cal Regional

SBCC was seeded third for the Southern Cal Regional women's volleyball playoffs and will host No. 14 Irvine Valley in the first round on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Vaqueros (23-3) have won 11 straight and are 33-3 in sets during the streak. SBCC claimed its fifth straight WSC North title with an 8-0 record. The Vaqueros are also 8-0 at home.

    Southern Cal Regional Bracket

The Lasers (14-6) have won their last three matches and five of the last six. They finished fourth in the Orange Empire Conference at 11-5. The WSC and OEC both have five teams in the 18-team Regional.

The top four seeds are Grossmont, L.A. Pierce, SBCC and Mira Costa.

The Vaqueros hit a season-high .528 in Wednesday's 3-0 sweep of Hancock and coach Ed Gover picked up his 350th win. Carolyn Andrulis (243 kills, 233 digs), Shannon Friend (241 kills and Kaylene Ureno (200 kills, 37 aces) lead the offensive attack. Setter Kiana Pisula averages 8.5 assists per set and has 11 double-doubles. Libero Claire Bagdasar leads the team in digs with 280 and is second in aces (33).

The Lasers are led by Taira Ka'awaloa (243 kills, 225 digs) and Lucee Fitzgerald (155 kills,, 249 digs).
